Premier League newcomers Sheffield United reportedly want to sign Loren Moron, one year after he rejected a £22m West Ham move.

11 months ago, West Ham United tried and failed to sign Real Betis striker Loren Moron.

According to Mundo Deportivo, The Hammers had made a £22 million bid for the 6ft 2ins centre-forward. But rather than join Manuel Pellegrini’s revolution at the London Stadium, he decided to stay put and sign a new deal with the La Liga outfit.

“It is true there were several clubs who contacted me regarding their interest and we had one firm proposal from them (West Ham),” Loren told Estadio Deportivo later in the year.

“I did not want to throw away the opportunity I have here at Betis after moving through the youth system and playing for the reserve side. I let my agents know, I told my parents and friends and told them that my intention was to stay and continue here.”

So with all this in mind, Sheffield United would really be pulling off one hell of a coup if they managed to convince Moron to walk away from Real Betis and make the move to Bramall Lane just one year on.

According to Informa Betis, the newly promoted Blades have made an enquiry about the 25-year-old and they are well placed to sign him.

It is no secret that Chris Wilder wants a marquee striker signing amid links with Britt Assombalonga, Neal Maupay and Jay Rodriguez. Moron’s pace and power could see him provide a real presence in attack even if his goalscoring record (six in 22 starts last season) needs some work.

And West Ham fans would be understandably frustrated if Loron ended the summer wearing the red and white stripes of Sheffield United, given that he so publicly turned them down not so long ago.
