Like Coventry, fellow Hammers midfielder Declan Rice also played for the Boys in Green at youth level.
West Ham United have announced that academy midfielder Conor Coventry has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for the first time.
The 18-year-old has several Irish caps from Under-17 to Under-19 level but the upcoming European U21 Championship qualifier with Luxembourg could see him pick up his first cap at that level.
Coventry, who won the Dylan Tombides Award last May, made his Hammers first-team debut for the Hammers in the 8-0 Carabao Cup win over Macclesfield Town last September, and since then he has become the club’s Under-23 captain.
The Republic, whose Under-21s are managed by Stephen Kenny, will take on the Benelux nation at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin on Sunday 24 March at 5pm, with Italy, Sweden, Iceland and Armenia also making up Group 1.

Some fans couldn’t help but notice some similarities between Coventry’s call-up and international progress, and that of another Hammers midfielder who also progressed through the Irish setup before his switch to the England setup.
