The Senegalese striker has been out of action with a back problem.
West Ham’s Diafra Sakho in action with Watford’s Sebastian Prodl
West Ham United’s chief medical officer has offered an update on the fitness of several of the club’s stars – including striker Diafra Sakho.
The Hammers are currently picking up some form again and take on Everton in the Premier League tomorrow at Goodison Park.
One area where the club have again found themselves struggling because of injuries and form this season is up front.
However, Senegalese striker Diafra Sakho was not expected to still be at the club.
Tottenham’s Danny Rose in action with West Ham’s Diafra Sakho
West Ham tried to sell him this summer but a move to West Brom failed to materialise because of a back problem.
Sakho has therefore not played at all yet this season but it seems he is stepping up his recovery from the problem.
Stijn Vandenbroucke told the official West Ham website this week:
“Diafra Sakho has been training all week with the Under-23s in controlled but hard sessions. Diaf is in the final stages of his own pre-season training schedule and he will join the first-team squad next week.
“He will train for several weeks with the first team before he will be re-introduced gradually into games.”
Sakho may have nearly burned his bridges at West Ham but in honesty he could become a valuable member of the West Ham team this season.
Simone Zaza has struggled to find goals whilst Jonathan Calleri is also still adapting. Andre Ayew is fit again but Andy Carroll is again injured and it could be Sakho plays a part in the first-team picture once he returns from his injury problem.
