Stuart Pearce has stated that Tottenham transfer target, James Ward-Prowse, has had the ‘best year of his career’ for Southampton this season.
The West Ham coach added that Ward-Prowse is a ‘very intelligent’ player and someone who is similar to Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson.
The king of dead-ball situations in the Premier League, Ward-Prowse is now attracting interest from elsewhere, with Spurs keen on his talents.
Given that the £50 million star signed a new contract last summer, those at St Mary’s will probably demand a big fee if they have to part ways with the player.
Nonetheless, speaking about Ward-Prowse’s talents on talkSPORT, ex-England international, Pearce, had nothing but praise for the midfielder.
“Club captain and a very intelligent lad that knows how to play the game and knows how to play sat in front of a back four or three,” said Pearce.
“Very, very intelligent. Good legs and good energy – Ward-Prowse is a very, very talented player. Maybe with Henderson coming to the latter years, fitness-wise and that sort of thing. It might just open the door for him.
“He’s a similar type to Jordan Henderson. Fantastic captain at Southampton and his influence around the place.
“And I think he has the best year of his career at Southampton.”

WARD-PROWSE WORTHY OF PLAYING IN EUROPE
Southampton aren’t probably going to finish in Europe any time soon, so they might find that Ward-Prowse will head for the exit door, sooner rather than later.
The England international has enough quality in his boots to take a step up to a team in Europe.
Spurs can offer the best domestic competition of the lot in Champions League football, plus Antonio Conte needs more quality in midfield.
So, it’s something worth looking out for, with the summer transfer window officially opening last Friday.
