Stuart Pearce has praised Arsenal transfer target, Tammy Abraham, for doing ‘brilliantly’ in the colours of Roma this season.

The West Ham coach added that Abraham has ‘grown as a man’ over in Italy following his transfer from Chelsea last summer.

The 24-year-old became a record-breaker in Rome during the 2021/22 season by scoring the most goals by an Englishman in a single season in Serie A.

Abraham, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal once again, scored 17 goals in 37 league games under Jose Mourinho and 26 in all competitions.

He will now be hoping that helps him on the international front and trying to compete with Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, for England’s all-important striker spot, as Pearce shared his thoughts on the player, as he told talkSPORT.

“He has done brilliantly,” said Pearce. “I said some time back that I thought more English players going abroad and playing can only ever help the national team.

“I think certainly there’s a point in case with Tammy. His experience abroad has probably grown him as a man.

“If this is his time now, then the timing is perfect with this World Cup coming up.

“It shows how difficult it is getting in and a direct reflection of how well Harry Kane is playing because he plays when he is fit. He is the standout player in that position.”

COULD A RETURN TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE BE ON THE CARDS FOR ABRAHAM?

Added to his goals for Roma, Abraham also won the European Conference League – the club’s first-ever European trophy.

It’s a remarkable achievement for the player and a slap back in the face of Chelsea, who sold him and kept Timo Werner on their books.

But, with Arsenal searching for that all-important striker this summer, could Abraham be their answer?

Over the years, the Gunners have had a habit of signing ex-Chelsea players, and in truth, making a mess of it because they haven’t worked out.

But, if this deal were to happen, then it might provide those at the Emirates with a different story to write this time around.
