West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian is the best in the Premier League according to coach Bobby Mimms.
West Ham United goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms claims the side’s current number one Adrian is performing better than Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Manchester United’s David De Gea.
The Premier League is blessed with some talented shot stoppers and Mimms claims that West Ham’s number one is the best of the bunch, stressing that he’ll continue working hard to try and make a difference for his team.
“Adrian is doing really well. Since I came to the Club, he has performed pretty consistently and over the Christmas period some of his performances were top-class,” Mimms told West Ham’s website.
“I don’t think there is anybody performing in the Premier League as well and as consistently as Adrian at the moment, so long may that continue.”
“We will keep working out there on the training pitch and hopefully he can carry that into the games.”
The stats suggest that in terms of saves, Mimms has a point.
| Position | Team | Saves | Punches | Good High Claim | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrián | GK | West Ham | 67 | 9 | 21 | 20 | 1,800 |
| Hugo Lloris | GK | Tottenham | 65 | 17 | 23 | 20 | 1,800 |
| David de Gea | GK | Man Utd | 58 | 3 | 14 | 20 | 1,800 |
| Wojciech Szczesny | GK | Arsenal | 45 | 2 | 24 | 17 | 1,499 |
| Thibaut Courtois | GK | Chelsea | 37 | 5 | 41 | 19 | 1,644 |
He’s made more saves than the highest profile ‘keepers in the Premier League, which shows off his ability to be in the right place at the right time for his club.
He’s also made more high claims than De Gea, while he’s ahead of the Spaniard, Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny and Courtois in terms of his punching ability this season.
There’s perhaps more focus on other goalkeepers because of their profiles at the biggest clubs in the Premier League, but Sam Allardyce and Mimms won’t mind one little bit if that deflects attention away from Adrian and takes pressure off of him.
Long may his good form continue.
