West Ham United co-owner David Gold has left Tottenham Hotspur in little doubt as to what he expects for their Carabao Cup game.
The Hammers were drawn to face bitter rivals Spurs – their Premier League opponents on Saturday – at Wembley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup next month.
Since the draw there has been a fervent debate online and on social media over what the ticket allocation should and could be given it is a cup game and the increased capacity at the national stadium.
Some reports suggest the allocation could be as little as 5,000, which has not gone down well with Hammers supporters.
But co-owner Gold has taken to Twitter to leave his Spurs counterparts in little doubt as to what he expects to receive as a ticket allocation for the October tie.
“At least 12,000,” Gold said in reply to a supporter asking how many tickets West Ham will be allocated for the game.
The tweet, which has since been deleted, sent Hammers fans into a bit of a frenzy with a mixture of excitement and disbelief.
The official allocation for the match is yet to be announced but whatever happens the game gives West Ham a real chance of progress to the next round.
That’s because Spurs play Real Madrid and Liverpool in the week leading up to their October tie after which they travel to play Manchester United and then Real Madrid again.
Mauricio Pochettino has already made it clear the Premier League and Champions League are his priorities and Spurs only just scraped past Barnsley 1-0 in the last round.
