West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has confirmed to talkSPORT that the club are looking to secure a deal for a midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

The Hammers have been busy this summer, adding eight new players to their squad so far as Bilic has looked to add quality across the park.

They look likely to be busy up until deadline day though, primarily as they look to add another striker to their squad following the injury to Andre Ayew.

However, that may not be the only area in which they add, especially if they secure Europa League football.

And Gold has confirmed that they are in talks to complete a move for a midfielder, saying he believes he will be an exciting young player.

“We do have another midfielder coming in, we hope, before the window closes, I think he is going to be an exciting young player,” he told talkSPORT.

Although Gold failed to name the player, it appears that midfielder will be FC Sion youngster Edimilson Fernandes.

According to the Daily Mail, the Hammers have had a £5.5 million bid for the 20-year-old accepted by the Swiss side.

They are not the first Premier League side to chase his signature, with Liverpool also having expressed an interest earlier this year.
