Everton are reportedly keen on Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere looks set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer, and teams may well be looking to snap him up on a free transfer.

Wilshere, 26, has been on the Arsenal books since signing from Luton Town back in 2001, and has racked up nearly 200 appearances for the club despite injuries plaguing him.

Now though, Wilshere is inside the final few months of his contract, and ultimately looks set to move on this summer, with Arsenal so far failing to sign him to a new deal.

Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported that Everton are positioning themselves to lead the race for Wilshere’s signature this summer, and hope to sign him on a free transfer with wages in excess of £80,000-a-week.

However, if one Premier League team should be looking to rival the Toffees for Wilshere’s signature, then it must be West Ham United, who cannot afford to give Everton a free run at the England international’s signature.

As noted by the Daily Star, Wilshere grew up supporting West Ham, and may well be tempted into making a move to the London Stadium both for that reason, and because he wouldn’t have to leave London.

West Ham are in desperate need of a quality midfield player given patchy displays from Cheikhou Kouyate and Mark Noble, and the prospect of signing Wilshere for free should be hugely appealing to David Gold and David Sullivan.

His wages may be in the region of £80,000-a-week to £100,000-a-week, but West Ham have paid similar wages before, and they should at least explore the possibility of luring Wilshere to East London, rather than allowing him to join Premier League rivals Everton this summer.
