West Ham reportedly came close to signing PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa, who was also chased by the likes of FC Barcelona, Ajax and LOSC Lille.
According to RMC Sport, the Irons were in the race to sign the left-back, with several clubs around Europe also chasing Kurzawa, including UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea.
However, despite plenty of interest and PSG eager to sell the 29-year-old, Kurzawa remained in Paris when the clock struck 11 pm, bringing a transfer saga to a disappointing end.
West Ham failed to make a single signing in the January window despite a lack of centre-backs, with Angelo Ogbonna set to miss the upcoming months due to injury, as well as competition for Michail Antonio in the striker position.
The Irons remain in the hunt for European football, however, their lack of business this month could come to haunt them. West Ham now find themselves in a position where one injury might derail their ambitions of another high Premier League finish.
And one target who could allude them is Kurzawa, who could have provided important cover in the left-back position heading into the second half of the season and the UEFA Europa League knockout stages.
West Ham could regret not completing Kurzawa deal

Indeed, the defender has hardly played for PSG this season, and with Kurzawa earning a reported £89,000-a-week, it makes sense why the club were unable to offload the former AS Monaco star.
As per the report, there was no shortage of interest in Kurzawa, who could still leave with the Turkish Super Lig and MLS transfer windows yet to shut. However, no club in western Europe was keen on taking the defender, including West Ham.
Indeed, the reason could be down to finances. However, there is no denying that West Ham could have done with an extra option in the left-back position, and Kurzawa could have been ideal.
