The West Ham United midfielder’s contract expires at the end of this season.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters today, and responded when asked whether he plans to offer Samir Nasri a new deal at the end of the season, as quoted by Football.London.
The Frenchman joined the Hammers on a short-term deal in January, but injuries have severely hampered his progress, limiting him to just six appearances in all competitions for Pellegrini’s side.
He is back and available for selection for Saturday’s game against Southampton, however, and he will be hoping for two impressive performances, to enhance his chances of earning a new deal with West Ham.
Pellegrini gave little away regarding Nasri’s future, though, when speaking to reporters today.
The Chilean responded when asked whether the 31-year-old will still be in east London next season, as quoted by Football.London:
“When he arrived here we knew he hadn’t played for a while so we knew it was a risk. I don’t want to talk about him staying.”
Nasri was always going to be a risky signing for West Ham, and they will perhaps be better off choosing not to extend his current deal in the summer.
He is a superb talent, but his injury problems seem to have made Pellegrini’s mid up for him.
