The West Ham United ace was sent off against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Hammers boss David Moyes addressed the media during his pre-match press conference today, and opened up on a conversation that he shared with Arthur Masuaku yesterday, regarding the red card that he received on Saturday for spitting in the direction of Wigan’s Nick Powell, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.
The former Olympiacos man received a six-game ban for his actions, and West Ham will really miss him, considering the huge impact that he has had on their play so far this season.
There is no excuse for the 24-year-old’s actions, however, and he will have to accept his punishment accordingly.
Moyes spoke to reporters about the situation today, and shared what Masuaku told him during a meeting between him and the player yesterday, as quoted by Football.London:
“I spoke with him yesterday in the office and he was sad about the whole thing and we were sad too because he cost us. He was really remorseful, he said “I’ve never done it before, never been sent off before” so yesterday he was really down about the whole thing and rightly so, so we were because he’s played well for us, a big part of the team and we are going to miss him in the coming weeks. It was a terrible thing he did, everybody knowns in our culture it is not acceptable whatsoever and what he gets, he’ll deserve it.”
Next up on the agenda for the Hammers is a hugely important home game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League tomorrow night, and Moyes will be hoping that his side can cope with the absence of one of their best players.
With just four points separating them and the drop zone, nothing less than a win against the Eagles will do.
