West Ham manager says he did not enjoy Sunderland.
Moyes appeared miserable from the very start on Wearside after being appointed to replace Sam Allardyce.
Sunderland were relegated and Moyes’ reputation as a manager took a big hit in the process.
Despite this he has been appointed as the new West Ham manager, and hopes to help the club get back to winning ways after a disappointing start to the season left them in 18th place after 11 games.
Moyes said of his Sunderland experience: “It’s only been the last job [at Sunderland] where I feel it wasn’t a good move and I didn’t enjoy the experience. So I’m hungry to make sure I get things right now.
“I don’t know any manager who hasn’t gone through negative periods, especially in the game today. I hope it gives me great strength and understanding of what is required.”
Moyes struggled at Sunderland in the transfer market and for results and looked early on like he regretted taking the job.
His comments underline that he felt like this and his lack of enjoyment rubbed off on the fans, and possibly the players.
Now refreshed after a six month break from football, Moyes has a chance to salvage his reputation and start enjoying the game once again.
West Ham fans are in need of cheering up after a difficult start to the season and Moyes could turn out to be the solution they never knew they wanted.
