Club chiefs have delivered a blunt verdict on the performance at Molineux and outlined what they believe is essential for survival.

West Ham’s crushing 3–0 defeat to previously winless Wolves has sent shockwaves through the club, with the nature of the performance sparking fierce internal and external criticism. The display, particularly in the first half, was widely condemned by pundits and former players alike, leaving the travelling support watching in disbelief as the match unravelled.

The result has plunged the Hammers deeper into relegation trouble. With only 14 points at this stage of the season — seven fewer than the total when they last went down in 2011 — West Ham now face a daunting task to avoid the drop, and the pressure on head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has intensified dramatically.

Although Nuno has been in charge for just over three months, questions about his future have already surfaced repeatedly. Despite public backing from the board before a crucial run of fixtures against Fulham, Brighton and Wolves, the situation has worsened, with West Ham collecting only one point from those nine on offer.

Tensions behind the scenes have also grown over recruitment. Nuno pushed back after the board criticised him for delays in approving transfers, while the £20 million signing of Brazilian forward Pablo was pointedly described by the club as a player specifically requested by the manager. Meanwhile, the team’s form has continued to deteriorate, stretching their winless run to nine matches and undoing any optimism generated by recent victories over Newcastle and Burnley.

Board delivers verdict and outlines what is needed

In the aftermath of the Wolves defeat, club officials described the performance as “terrible” and outlined what they believe must happen for West Ham to have any realistic chance of recovery. According to a senior spokesman for the owners, the return of key players — Lucas Paquetá and Jean-Clair Todibo, along with El Hadji Malick Diouf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka after AFCON — is seen as vital.

Notably, the board made no reference to new signings as a solution, a stance that appears to reflect lingering doubts over the manager’s transfer choices. With financial pressures increasing and relegation looming as a serious threat, West Ham may be heading toward a period of deep structural change before stability can be restored.
