Diafra Sakho has been heavily linked with a move away from West Ham United during this window.

Alan Irvine, manager of Norwich City looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion at Carrow Road on April 21, 2017 in Norwich, England.

In comments reported by Football London, West Ham assistant Alan Irvine has insisted that Diafra Sakho does have a future with the Irons amid links with the London Stadium exit.

Sky Sports reports that Sakho is keen on leaving the Hammers during this window, and as many as seven clubs are interested in offering him a fresh challenge, including Premier League trio Swansea City, West Brom and Brighton. Crystal Palace previously pulled out of a deal to sign the Senegalese forward.

The 28-year-old has made 14 top flight appearances this season, but they have all been from the bench. Nevertheless, Irvine has insisted that he could see a situation where the striker stays as part of David Moyes’ squad.

“Absolutely,” he said, as reported by Football London, when asked if Sakho has a future at West Ham.

“He is injured at the moment, has been since the window opened so he’s not been on the training ground at all, I’ve seen very little of him to be honest

“He is not available for selection, it’s as simple as that.”

It would arguably not be a huge surprise if West Ham did look to hold onto Sakho this month. While his record does not jump off the page initially, it is arguably no worse than that of any other striker in the Hammers’ squad, with four goals being scored in 296 minutes of action in all competitions this term, according to WhoScored.

And given that the three English sides interested in his signature all find themselves in the bottom five of the table, it may not be that surprising if the Hammers do decide that, if they are going to sell him, they would rather he left for one of the French sides that are chasing a deal so a transfer is much less likely to come back and haunt them this season.
