West Ham United are keen on signing Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi this month – and he may be allowed to leave Villa Park on loan.

The Daily Mail claim that El Ghazi is one of Villa’s targets for the January window as David Moyes seeks new signings.

In addition to that, The Sunday Mirror (02/01, p66) claim that Villa will listen to offer for El Ghazi this month.

New Villa boss Steven Gerrard is expected to make changes this month, and that could mean El Ghazi is on his way out.

El Ghazi, 26, has only played 33 minutes of first-team action for Villa since Gerrard’s appointment in November.

The Dutch wide man joined Villa from Lille in 2018 and has made 118 appearances for the club.

With 26 goals and 16 assists, El Ghazi has contributed well for Villa.

Now though, El Ghazi is finding it hard to play at Villa Park and may fancy a move away.

West Ham’s interest is a surprise though, given that they already have a number of players in attacking areas.

Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini, Nikola Vlasic and Andriy Yarmolenko are all at David Moyes’ disposal behind Michail Antonio.

Adding El Ghazi only really makes sense if Yarmolenko is on his way out, adding depth out wide.

El Ghazi’s availability means West Ham have a real chance at a deal, but whether he’s a top priority remains to be seen.
