The Sunderland man is linked to West Ham United this winter.

The Mirror have reported that West Ham United are preparing a January swoop for Sunderland defender Lamine Kone.

Everton were linked with a £20 million move for the 27-year-old back in August (reported The Mirror), but the Ivorian centre-back ended up staying at Sunderland.

The Black Cats will be reluctant to lose Kone as David Moyes’s side sit bottom of the Premier League table after failing to win any of their first 10 games.

The Mirror reports that West Ham boss Slaven Bilic wants to solidify an erratic Irons defence, and has earmarked Kone to be that man.

But by the looks of things on Twitter, West Ham fans aren’t overly fussed about the prospect of signing him, while supporters of the North-East club don’t seem bothered about losing him.

Even with Sunderland in trouble, Kone would not be cheap. He is contracted to the Wearside outfit until 2021, having only joined last January when the Black Cats were managed by Sam Allardyce, who left in the summer.

He has not been in fine form this season, but no Sunderland player has and it would be unfair to judge every player by the club’s current Premier League position.
