Newcastle United fans should be happy about a West Ham United rumour.

Coach of SSC Napoli Maurizio Sarri gestures during the Serie A match between SSC Napoli and Atalanta BC at Stadio San Paolo on August 27, 2017 in Naples, Italy.

According to The Express, West Ham United have lined up Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri to replace under-fire manager Slaven Bilic.

The Irons have lost all three of their Premier League games so far, conceding 10 goals along the way and few would be surprised to see Bilic given the axe if West Ham fail to beat newly-promoted Huddersfield Town at the London Stadium tomorrow night.

This time last week, the prospect of the Hammers boss getting the sack might have been bad news for Newcastle United, but the Magpies fans should be hoping the rumour about Sarri is genuine.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez will “express an interest” in the West Ham job if the former Croatia manager is axed, but moving for the Italian tactician would obviously limit the Spaniard’s options when it comes to leaving St James’s Park.

If Sarri get the job, Benitez would be forced to stay in the North-East for the time being, regardless how unhappy he is with owner Mike Ashley over a shambolic transfer window.

But will the 58-year-old take the Irons job, if offered?

Napoli’s Champions League campaign is due to kick off next week and, having led the Partenopei into the competition following a second-placed finish, he might not readily leave to join a West Ham side who, at the moment, are rock bottom of the Premier League.
