West Ham and Crystal Palace dealt blow by latest Solanke reports

West Ham United and Crystal Palace were linked with a move for Dominic Solanke earlier in the month.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Jurgen Klopp has been impressed by Dominic Solanke in training and is planning to hand the striker the chance to push for a spot in Liverpool’s side – in news that is bound to be a blow for both West Ham and Crystal Palace.

The Sun reported earlier this month that the Hammers and Eagles were interested in signing Solanke on loan during the January transfer window as he struggled for game-time with the Reds.

The report added that Liverpool were ready to allow Solanke the chance to head elsewhere for the second-half of the campaign. But it appears that their plans have changed.

The Mail is now reporting that Klopp is planning to keep the forward around beyond the window and is even willing to put a move for Bundesliga hotshot Luka Jovic on the back-burner for the time-being to hand Solanke a chance to impress.

For Manuel Pellegrini, it will be a setback if he cannot sign another striker. Marko Arnautovic has been excellent while Javier Hernandez is always in with a chance of coming off the bench and scoring.

It must also not be forgotten that the Irons have Andy Carroll coming back to full fitness and Lucas Perez has scored two goals in his last three appearances.

However, Solanke would have arguably improved those options further. But it is perhaps a significantly greater blow for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Only one team has scored fewer goals than Palace this season, so Solanke would have been an excellent target. But it now appears that they will have to look elsewhere.
