Ajax could do with Mohammed Kudus these days with the West Ham United forward scoring a ‘world-class goal’ as David Moyes’ side hammered Freiburg 5-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night.
There were nine goals combined in the European last-16 second-leg ties involving West Ham United and Ajax. Unfortunately for the Dutch giants, none of those flew into the Aston Villa net, Jordan Henderson and co going down 4-0 in the Midlands while their former player struck two glorious yet very different efforts some 130 miles to the east.
Mohammed Kudus – with 15 goals and five assists – has taken his tally to 20 ‘goal contributions’ since that £38 million move to the London Stadium over the summer. And it speaks volumes about Kudus’ dazzling solo effort – breezing from one end to the other before slotting home coolly – that his second of the night, a fiercely-struck effort from the edge of the box, was merely a fine footnote in a glorious solo display.

West Ham hammer Freiburg as Mohammed Kudus shines
“Which club is going to pick him up?” laughs Kenneth Perez, the former Ajax ace who could only wish to see Kudus strut his stuff in Amsterdam these days (ESPN).
“Ajax could really use him. This (Kudus’ first of the night) is a world (class) goal.”
None of the players currently at Ajax’s disposal ever looked capable of producing a finish of similarly show-stopping quality as Aston Villa ran riot to secure a quarter-final spot in the Europa Conference League.
And Perez is pleased to see Kudus – plus former Ajax team-mate Edson Alvarez – take to life in England like the proverbial duck to water, his fine form in stark contrast to many other expensive Eredivisie exports.
£38 million very well spent
“This boy has everything,” adds the former Denmark international. “(It is) nice to see that a player from the Eredivisie can effortlessly compete in the Premier League. That has to do with his physical characteristics, which are genetically determined.”
West Ham, defending champions of the Conference League, are looking to go one better this term while adding a Europa League title to their collection. The likes of Atalanta, Roma and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool also secured a last-eight place on Thursday.
