The West Ham United defender delivered a harsh assessment of his first season in the Premier League.

West Ham defender Issa Diop spoke exclusively to the club’s official website about his first season in England, and insisted that the club’s fans have still not seen the best in him yet.
The 22-year-old joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £22 million, and he has gone on to make 34 appearances in all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Diop has really impressed for West Ham this season, with some towering displays at the heart of the Hammers’ defence, and he is already looking like an absolutely bargain for £22 million.
The Frenchman instead that he still has a long way to go, however, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website, sharing how he is unhappy at the fact that his side have not kept enough clean sheets this season:

“We score a lot of goals, but we also concede a lot of goals which, as a defender, I am not happy about. I think I can play better so I need to improve again. The West Ham fans have not seen the best of me yet. I know I can do better so I hope I can do better in the future.”
Diop is obviously being very harsh on himself, because he has arguably been one of West Ham’s best players this season.
And if he does continue to improve, he will undoubtedly evolve into one of the best centre-backs in the league.
