West Ham United held Liverpool to a draw at the London Stadium last night.
West Ham ace Declan Rice spoke to reporters after his side’s superb performance against Liverpool last night, and explained how his positioning throughout the match really frustrated Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Hammers really were excellent last night from the very first whistle, and they will actually feel slightly aggrieved that they did not take three points from the contest.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men showed plenty of fight – the bare minimum really after their last three outings, and they now sit in 12th spot in the table, six points adrift of seventh placed Wolves.
Rice spoke to reporters after the draw with Liverpool, and explained how he nullified the Reds’ threat through the middle of the park just by occupying the space in front of his back four, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“I think you could see that Firmino and Salah were frustrated because they couldn’t go through the middle. They kept going wide and they obviously haven’t got a target man to play up to, so we frustrated their game-plan and we got out with a point.”
Rice has been brilliant for West Ham this season, and he showed once again last night just how important he is to Pellegrini’s side.
And if the Hammers are to have any chance of finishing inside the top seven, the 20-year-old will need to keep up his fine form between now and the end of the season.
