The West Ham United youngster knows Mason Mount well from their time spent together at Chelsea.
West Ham youngster Declan Rice spoke to reporters about his recent rise to prominence, and shared how the best connection that he shares in football is with Chelsea ace Mason Mount and fellow Hammers starlet Danny Kemp, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 19-year-old has been in fine form for the Hammers this season, making the deep-lying midfield role his own, and his performances have defied his tender years and relative inexperience.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have become reliant on the way in which Rice protects the back four, and his presence at the base of West Ham’s midfield has allowed the club’s more creative players to flourish.
Rice spoke to reporters about his time in the game so far, and named Mason Mount and Danny Kemp as two of his closest friends in football, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“When you’re younger you play in all sort of positions, but it was the under-10 and 11 age groups that I found my position and I was playing in midfield with Mason Mount, who’s my best mate, and Danny Kemp who is in the Academy here. It was us three together and I still say to this day it was one of the best connections I had in football.”
Mount is currently on loan with Derby County, whilst Kemp has impressed for West Ham’s under-23 side.
