West Ham ace Arthur Masuaku shares why the last 20 minutes against Southampton were not enjoyable

West Ham United beat Southampton 3-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday.

West Ham ace Arthur Masuaku returned to action on Saturday, having missed six games through suspension, and he told the club’s official website how the last 20 minutes of the game against Southampton were particularly taxing for him personally.

The Hammers earned a vital three points against Mark Hughes’ Saints side, and now sit in 14 position in the Premier League table.

With five points separating David Moyes’ side from the bottom three, they can finally start looking upwards rather than behind them, and with seven games remaining this season, a place inside the top half of the table seems to be a genuine possibility.

Masuaku, 24, spoke exclusively to the club’s official website about his return to action at the weekend, and admitted that he found the last 20 minutes tough going against Southampton:

“It was a good feeling to be back on the pitch and I felt good during the game, except for maybe the last 20 minutes when I started to have cramps.”

The former Olympiacos man joined West Ham in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £6 million.

He arrived as a traditional left-back, but when Moyes took over as manager in November last year, the Congolese was given the license to play in a more advanced role, and he has been nothing short of a revelation.

The Hammers fans will be delighted that Masuaku is back and involved with the first-team, especially with some of the tricky fixtures that lie in wait for their side.
