Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a huge blow in their quest to win the Premier League title this season.

Spurs have suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United away from home at the London Stadium in the league.

Manuel Lanzini’s goal in the 65th minute proved to be the difference between the two London clubs.

The defeat to the Hammers means that Tottenham remain four points behind leaders Chelsea, who will take on Middlesbrough at home this coming Monday evening.

Given that Boro are struggling for survival in the Premier League, the Blues should be able to pick up all three points from the encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas was following the match, and he has given his take on the situation.

“I don’t think any Spurs fans expected this type of performance tonight,” Jenas told BBC Sport. “Fans will be proud of what their team has done but will walk away from here tonight disappointed.”

“Football can be very simple sometimes,” added Jenas. “You have 11 players on the pitch and the team that has more of those 11 turn up on the pitch usually wins.

“For West Ham all 11 players turned up. For Tottenham, I could not pick one player who put in a performance.”

Former West Ham defender Rio Ferdinand was also following the game, and he was pleased with the win for the Hammers, while ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Kasey Keller was disappointed with the final result.
