West Bromwich Albion midfielder Gareth Barry has told the Birmingham Mail that no team in the Championship this season are as strong as Wolverhampton Wanderers were last year.

West Brom’s promotion chances took a knock at the weekend, as they were beaten by Middlebsrough at the Hawthorns.

However, Barry believes that West Brom can still come back into the top two, as no team is as dominant as Wolves were.

“I’d be surprised if a team does run away with it,” Barry said.

“There’s no standout team like Wolves last year.

“Let’s put that run together and you’ll be top of the pile. We need to speak about a few things and that’ll be our target.”

Wolves were one of the finest teams to ever play in the Championship, and their strength has been highlighted by their performances in the Premier League.

Wolves have adapted to life in the top flight with ease, and are sat in seventh place in the standings.

Barry’s West Brom side will be hoping to join them in the Premier League next year, but they have work to do.

West Brom are currently in fourth place in the Championship table, seven points away from the top two.
