Newcastle United fans could face more frustration if West Bromwich Albion are able to complete a move for Tom Cairney for £15 million in the coming days.

The Daily Mirror have suggested that West Brom are hopeful of landing Cairney, just months after Newcastle failed in their attempts to sign the midfielder.

The Magpies turned down a bid of £20 million for Cairney last summer, as reported by the Independent, but could now accept £5 million less from West Brom.

Tom Cairney of Fulham is dejected after the Sky Bet Championship Play Off Second Leg match between Reading and Fulham at Madejski Stadium on May 16, 2017 in Reading, England.

Newcastle would surely have been interested in snapping the Scotland international up, considering the drop in his value, but they simply do not have to budget to make additions this month.

Rafael Benitez is thought to be shopping with very limited funds, with loan deals targeted.

Benitez now may have to watch on, and allow West Brom to move for Cairney unrivalled.

And if Cairney does move to West Brom, for £5 million less than Newcastle offered just months ago, it will surely just serve to add to the frustration being felt by everyone at St. James’ Park at the moment.
