West Bromwich Albion want Jon Russell and could now target a cut-price January deal for the Huddersfield Town midfielder.

The Baggies appointed Carlos Corberan as their new manager in October after parting ways with Steve Bruce.

Three wins and one defeat in four games is a great start for the Spaniard, especially with three straight clean sheets.

Corberan may still want new signings for January though and he could move in for a familiar face.

West Bromwich Albion want Jonathan Russell

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that West Brom are keen on signing Huddersfield midfielder Jon Russell.

Russell is out of contract in the summer and has only started six Championship games for Huddersfield this season, but the Terriers do have a one-year option on that deal.

The 22-year-old hasn’t played since October 1st and seemingly isn’t in the plans of new boss Mark Fotheringham.

Corberan was the man who lured Russell to Huddersfield in the summer of 2021 and now seemingly fancies a reunion.

Russell stands at a huge 6ft 4in tall and operates as a box-to-box midfielder, though Corberan sometimes played him a little deeper.

Russell was in the Chelsea ranks before Corberan took him to Huddersfield, and he nailed down a spot as a regular in the second half of last season.

This season just hasn’t gone the same way for Russell but he may hope that reuniting with Corberan can get him back on track.

West Brom are seemingly looking at a cheap deal given Russell’s contract situation and role under Fotheringham, potentially bolstering Corberan’s options without breaking the bank.

This seems like a deal that makes sense for all parties and it would certainly show that West Brom are ready to move for players that Corberan really likes.

That’s important for any manager, even if it’s just talented squad players like Russell rather than big-money arrivals.
