West Bromwich Albion would be wise to look elsewhere, rather than appoint Mick McCarthy.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion are considering placing Mick McCarthy in charge next term.

The Baggies have a shortlist of names who could potentially take over from Alan Pardew, and McCarthy is said to be one of the men considered.

McCarthy is set to leave his current job at Ipswich Town at the end of the season, meaning he will be searching for a new role.

And the Mail claim that he now presents a ‘viable option’ for West Brom, although there are some concerns about how well his appointment would go down, because of his links with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It is not his past connections with Wolves which should make West Brom fans concerned over McCarthy’s appointment though.

Albion sacked Tony Pulis because they were unhappy with the lack of entertainment on display under the Welsh boss, and McCarthy would hardly offer an improvement in that regard.

The Ipswich boss has had success in the Championship, but he is known for making teams solid and organised, rather than free flowing.

And by putting McCarthy in charge, West Brom would only be showing muddled thinking, as they may as well have stuck by Pulis if they wanted effective but uninspiring football.
