West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis was only naturally disappointed at losing Darren Fletcher to Stoke City.
The former Manchester United midfielder spent two and a half seasons at the Hawthorns, in which he captained the Baggies and was crowned player of the year in 2016.
But despite being offered what Pulis described as a “fair and competitive” new contract, Fletcher chose Stoke instead and made a first return to his former club on Sunday, as goals from Jay Rodriguez and Peter Crouch ensured a 1-1 draw.
Yet while Fletcher was named man of the match by BBC Sport, many West Brom fans feel it is in fact they who got the better end of the deal, having seen his replacement, Gareth Barry – signed from Everton earlier this month – in action for the first time at home.
