Celtic have confirmed the signing of West Bromwich Albion right back Cristian Gamboa, with the defender bringing his two-year spell at The Hawthorns to an end.

The Bhoys have made their fifth signing of the summer, as Gamboa joins goalkeeper Dorus De Vries, defender Kolo Toure, winger Scott Sinclair and striker Moussa Dembele in penning deals with Rodgers’ men.

Gamboa, 26, had spent most of his career playing in Scandinavia with the likes of Fredrikstad, Copenhagen and Rosenborg before his performances for Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup earned him a big move to West Bromwich Albion.

Unfortunately for the diminutive full back, he couldn’t establish himself as a first-team player under Alan Irvine, and Tony Pulis didn’t fancy him much either – after all, his attacking nature and small stature hardly made him a Pulis-type defender.

After just one Premier League appearance last season, Gamboa is on the move, and has penned a three-year deal with Celtic ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

From the fringes of the West Brom side to the Champions League, this seems like an easy decision for Gamboa to make – and Baggies fans have been having their say on his departure on Twitter.

Many West Brom supporters believe that Gamboa wasn’t given a fair chance to prove himself under Pulis, and his move to Celtic will now give him the opportunity to prove his quality away from The Hawthorns.

However, others believe that Gamboa simply wasn’t good enough for the Premier League, and whilst he may look great in Scotland, he wasn’t up to the standard West Brom and Pulis needed.
