West Bromwich Albion player Oliver Burke was on-loan at Celtic last season.

A war of words has started to brew between English Championship side West Brom and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, with player Oliver Burke at the heart of the verbal jibes.
On Tuesday, Celtic released a statement on their official website where they hit back at Luke Dowling’s comments – WBA technical director – after he criticised the Glasgow club and Neil Lennon for the manner in which they treated Burke last season.
West Brom fans on Twitter provided a mixed reaction to that statement, with some suggesting that it is ‘sour grapes’ from the club, whilst others believe their own club shouldn’t be throwing any stones – example, Serge Gnabry, former WBA player, who was deemed not good enough for the club whilst he was on loan there but he is now Bayern Munich’s Player of the Year.
Nonetheless, the versatile attacker was on-loan at the Scottish club where he won the domestic treble, but it seems certain members of the WBA boardroom weren’t too impressed in the manner he was dealt with.
The Bhoys made it clear in their statement that the comments by Dowling were ‘ridiculous’ and ‘inaccurate’ as they defended their own manager and team.

Burke is a natural winger and he was deployed in a forward role by, at first Brendan Rodgers and then his replacement Lennon.
The Scotland international struggled to make a name for himself in a team that once again dominated the domestic circuit by winning three trophies.
If truth be told, Dowling has shot himself and West Brom in the foot with his comments because Burke has been a flop signing for them and he just puts added pressure on the player to produce the goods next season – if he doesn’t then Dowling will hear the noises coming from the Celtic faithful.
