West Bromwich Albion recorded an impressive win against Aston Villa in the Championship on Saturday.

Dean Smith the manager

West Brom fans on Twitter have hit back at Aston Villa manager Dean Smith for his comments after his side’s 2-0 defeat against their Midland rivals on Saturday.

The Baggies scored two first-half goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and Jay Rodriguez to secure a valuable three points for Darren Moore’s side in their race to finish in the Championship’s top two.

After the match, Smith, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail claimed that there was ‘nothing’ in the game and their rivals ‘showed no ambition’ in the second half.

As expected, Albion fans on Twitter didn’t take too well to the senior man’s comments, with some labelling him as ‘pathetic’ and ‘full of excuses’.

Another supporter claimed that Smith is still ‘very sour’ because he was ‘very keen’ to join them when they were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship in the summer.

In the end, the former Brentford man ended up replacing Steve Bruce in the Villa Park dugout in October and has endured a tough time in recent weeks.

After that win at Villa Park, Albion will set their sights on breaking into the Championship’s top two, with Sheffield United and Norwich City currently occupying those spots.

As for Villa, they are nine points behind the play-off places as their hopes of earning promotion this season are more than likely over with a number of teams ahead of them also having games in hand.
