West Bromwich Albion dodged a bullet by missing out on the Stoke man.
West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis must be delighted that he missed out on Kevin Wimmer in the summer transfer window.
The former Tottenham man was being courted by West Brom and Stoke City for much of the off-season.
The Baggies, according to The Telegraph, were in talks with the Austria international over a £15 million move, but Stoke came in with £18 million to gazump Pulis.
In hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise for the West Midlands club.
Stoke found themselves heavily beaten this weekend, with Manchester City demolishing Mark Hughes’s side on the Welshman’s return to Eastlands.
Wimmer, who started but subbed at half-time, was slammed by Stoke fans for his first-half showing, but the 24-year-old could have just as easily been playing for West Brom if not for Hughes out-bidding his compatriot in the market.
And it’s not as if it was a once-off.
Wimmer, who did look quite an asset for his old club once upon a time, was a questionable signing before that visit to the Etihad and now it seems like West Brom and Pulis dodged a big bullet indeed.
