They then hoped to overhaul the Whites, but it didn’t work, with Leeds responding with a seven game winning streak while the Baggies faltered.
Leeds are in second place at West Brom in fourth. West Brom are hoping to cut the gap to four points if they win their game in hand.
The Baggies are also eyeing the fixture at the end of the month at Elland Road, a six-pointer they must win if they are going to overtake Leeds and earn an automatic promotion spot.
West Brom are trying to gain every edge they can.
That’s why yesterday West Brom announced that the players will be paying for supporters to travel to Elland Road at the end of the month.
The Baggies want as many fans as possible to cheer the team on and win the vital game which will take place on March 1.
Chris Brunt told the club website: “Everything suggests it’s going to be a big game at Elland Road and if this gesture helps a few more of our fans get there who otherwise would not have been able to, then that’s great.”
West Brom’s biggest boost for the fixture may have come from the EFL, who yesterday rescheduled Leeds’ game away to QPR for February 26, just three days before the game against the Baggies.
