Liverpool have been linked with a shock swoop for the West Bromwich Albion ace.
Reds boss Jürgen Klopp will surely be looking to bolster his attacking ranks at Anfield this month, following the £145 million sale of Philippe Coutinho at the start of the transfer window.
According to the Sun, one player on the German’s radar is West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, but surely Liverpool should be aiming higher than the Baggies ace, if they want to challenge for major honours on all fronts this season.
The 28-year-old moved to the Hawthorns from Zenit Saint Petersburg in the summer of 2015, for a free believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, and although he has proven to be a valuable asset for West Brom, he has been far from prolific.
Rondon has scored just 23 goals in 105 outings for the Baggies, and it is hard to envisage a scenario where he would add anything to what Klopp already has available to him.
Roberto Firmino does a wonderful job for the Reds, in the way that he drops deep and links up play between the midfield and attack, and Rondon is not only nowhere near the Brazilian’s level, but his game is based mostly around sniffing out goalscoring opportunities, rather than putting in a shift for his team.
There are question marks over whether the Venezuelan has enough about him from a physical perspective to be a success at Liverpool, what with Klopp’s preference for a high intensity pressing game.
The signing of Rondon would be an underwhelming one to say the least, and Liverpool would be best served in avoiding a move for the 28-year-old.
