The West Bromwich Albion ace would be an excellent signing for Southampton.
Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will surely be looking to bolster his attacking options over the course of the next couple of weeks, as he looks to build a squad capable of improving upon last season’s eighth placed finish, and challenge for the Europa League spots.
Southampton are sound defensively, but lack any kind of cutting edge in the final third, and their tally of just 41 Premier League goals last term serves as evidence of their impotency in attacking areas.
With this in mind, the addition of an established attack-minded player will surely feature highly on Pellegrino’s wish-list, and the Argentine should consider a move for Baggies winger Nacer Chadli, who is available for around £25 million, according to the Express & Star.
Nacer Chadli of West Bromwich Albion
Despite having somewhat of a checkered past, the Belgian possesses outstanding technique, and would undoubtedly add a certain level of potency to the Saints’ attack, what with his direct playing style.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man can play anywhere along the front-line, and that kind of versatility could prove to be vital for the south coast outfit, throughout what will be a long and physically punishing campaign.
Chadli is also a real physical presence – something that will come in useful for Southampton, both from defensive and attacking set plays.
And whilst £25 million seems like a lot of money on the face of it, in today’s currently inflated transfer market, it actually represents fantastic value, and Pellegrino should not hesitate to bring him to St Mary’s this summer.
