The West Bromwich Albion players’ effort and commitment has been questioned in recent weeks and months.
West Brom ace Jonny Evans spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s bitterly disappointing defeat to Watford on Saturday, and insisted that the club’s fans would have appreciated how hard he and his teammates worked at Vicarage Road, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The Baggies are currently marooned at the bottom of the Premier League table, having won just three games all season, and they face the monumental task of closing what is currently an eight point gap between them and safety with just nine games remaining.
Many of the West Brom players have come in for criticism in recent weeks, with off-field issues proving to be detrimental to their hopes of avoiding the drop.
Evans, though, insisted that his side’s work-rate and effort against the Hornets could not be faulted, when speaking to reporters, and thanked the Baggies fans for their support at the weekend, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“The most important thing for us is that we still believe. We’re working hard. You could see that. The fans were receptive to that and it gave us a lift. They appreciated the work rate we put in today. We thank them for travelling.”
Next up for Alan Pardew’s men is a home game against Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, and three points will be a necessity, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of avoiding relegation to the Championship this season.
