West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez was full of praise for Dwight Gayle, who joined the Baggies on loan from Newcastle United this summer.

Jay Rodriguez has told West Brom’s official website that he is loving playing alongside Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle and is excited about the partnership that they are forming at The Hawthorns.

Gayle was arguably one of the Baggies’ most exciting signings during the summer, as he made the switch from St James’ Park on a season-long loan deal. And there have already been glimpses of his quality.

The Magpies-owned forward has scored three times and bagged a sensational brace in the win over Stoke City in West Brom’s final game before the international break. And Rodriguez suggested that he is very much enjoying playing alongside his new teammate.

“It’s really good to play with Dwight. He’s come in and he’s a great lad off the field. He’s fit in perfectly,” he told the club’s official website. “The stuff he does on the field; he’s quick, he’s sharp, he works hard. We’ve seen how good his finishing is.

“The first goal especially against Stoke was different level. It was a key moment for us to score and he kept a cool head. It’s things like that that you buzz off it. It’s easy as well because he’s such a good guy.”

It does appear that the Baggies are starting to turn a corner after a slightly underwhelming start that saw them lose at home to Bolton on the opening day and struggle to a draw with Nottingham Forest.

The 7-1 thrashing of Queens Park Rangers and victory over Stoke will leave Moore’s men with a huge amount of confidence ahead of the season’s resumption.

And if the Stoke display is a sign of what is to come, the partnership between Gayle and £12 million man Rodriguez (via BBC Sport) could prove to be a devastating one during the coming months.
