Sam Field came back into the West Bromwich Albion side for their Premier League draw with Tottenham on Saturday.

Field made his first top flight appearance since the second weekend of the season, with caretaker boss Gary Megson including him in the midfield against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Field was not seen during the final weeks of Tony Pulis’ tenure at The Hawthorns, but showed that he should have perhaps been given more opportunities while the Welshman was in charge as he put in an impressive display in the 1-1 draw with Spurs. And after the contest, he expressed his delight at returning to the side, as well as suggesting how he would have improved upon the performance.

“I tried my best and luckily I put a shift in and so did the rest of the boys.
“I just wanted to show what I could do. I’d still like to get on the ball a bit more, but I tried to just get stuck in and put some tackles in.”
Considering that Field has not featured in the top flight since August, his performance is undoubtedly a hugely encouraging sign that he could have the potential to become a much more important player for the Baggies during the coming months.
And while he was not exactly entirely happy with his performance, there is surely no way, if he stays fit, that the next West Brom manager will even consider leaving him out of the first-team for a number of months as he appears to have the talent to help the side drag themselves away from danger in the Premier League.
