West Bromwich Albion were linked with Andy Yiadom in December and should consider a fresh move this summer.

When the Sheffield Star reported in December that West Brom had been in contact with Barnsley over a potential move for Andy Yiadom, the Baggies had just lost a crucial game against Swansea City that had left them outside the bottom three on goal difference in the Premier League. Few could have quite anticipated that 15 games later, they would have just seven more points.

Yiadom looked set to be the latest player to leave the Tykes after being given the chance to enhance his reputation significantly at Oakwell, but would ultimately stay put during the January transfer window.

But while he remains a Barnsley player for now, his departure looks about as imminent as confirmation that West Brom will be playing Championship football next season – with transfermarkt showing that he is out of contract with Barnsley at the end of the season.

Alan Pardew’s men meanwhile, look set to soon be put out of their misery in the Premier League with 10 points separating them from safety and only seven games to pull off an escape that would be more dramatic than their incredible turnaround in 2005.

If West Brom deemed Yiadom to potentially be good enough for a potential Premier League move just a couple of months ago, then targeting him this summer now they look set to fall into the second tier is surely a no-brainer for the Baggies.

West Brom’s players have under-performed this season. They do not have the calibre of squad that deserves to be mentioned amongst the worst to ever grace the top flight – and for that reason, Pardew has to expect a lot of interest in his players this summer.

Baggies fans cannot expect Craig Dawson and Kieran Gibbs to be at The Hawthorns next season for example, and that would leave the club incredibly short at full-back if the pair did leave, so moving for Yiadom has to be a priority.

The 26-year-old has been one of the Championship’s most reliable full-backs and is capable of playing on, and dancing down, either flank, and the fact that he is set to be available on a free means West Brom must revive their interest and make a move.

Having been keen on the defender last year, it would bring some positivity to what looks set to be a bleak few months for the club if they were able to kick off their summer by landing his signature.
