According to a report from the Express & Star, West Brom have decided not to take up their option to sign Ali Gabr on a permanent basis, and West Ham should swoop in for the Egyptian.

The 29-year-old joined the Baggies on loan from Zamalek in January, but he failed to make a single appearance for the senior side.

Gabr is still a solid operator, though, and he would provide solid cover for the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Declan Rice and Winston Reid in the heart of West Ham’s defence.

According to the Express & Star, the Egypt international could be available for as little as £1.1 million this summer, and that would represent fantastic value in today’s ludicrously inflated transfer market.

Standing at just under 6ft 4in tall, Gabr is incredibly strong in the air, and plays with a certain kind of tenacity that makes him ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

Although it could be argued that he failed to impress during his time at the Hawthorns, but the Baggies’ situation was so dire that they couldn’t really afford to bring somewhat of an unknown quantity into play.

Whilst he would by no means be a regular starter at the London Stadium, he would be a useful squad member nevertheless, and for the fee of just £1.1 million, bringing him to West Ham should be a no-brainer for Manuel Pellegrini.
