This weekend sees the return of the Premier League following the second international break of the campaign.

One of the interesting fixtures will see West Bromwich Albion host Tottenham Hotspur at the Hawthorns.

Both sides have had different starts to the campaign, with Tony Pulis’ side sitting ninth in the table and Pochettino’s team second and just a point behind first.

They are both built on solid defences, with Spurs conceding just three this season and West Brom seven, equal to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Key player in those defences are Jonny Evans and Toby Alderweireld, so how do to the two centre-backs compare this season? We decided to take a look.

As it transpires, perhaps surprisingly it is the Baggies man who has had the better start, as he came out on top in four key areas, with the pair level in two.

So far this season he has posted more won interceptions and more defensive duels won than Alderweireld.

The two are level when it comes to tackles won, six each, and aerial duels won, nine each.

Evans has more ball recoveries, with a score of 45 compared to 38, while he has also won the ball more times in the defensive third.

Not to be totally outdone, though, Alderweireld has posted more accurate passes and enjoyed a better overall passing accuracy.

A slight win for Evans, though, and West Brom will be hoping he can enjoy further success this weekend to help his side pick up all three points.
