Former striker Mido hints that West Brom target and Al Ahly defender Ahmed Hegazy is coming to the Premier League.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough striker Mido has hinted that West Bromwich Albion could sign one of his fellow countrymen this summer.

Egyptian publication Kingfut reported last month that the Baggies had sent scouts to watch Al Ahly defender Ahmed Hegazy in action.

Now Mido – who is manager of Egyptian Premier League side Wadi Degla – has tweeted that Hegazy could be in the Premier League very soon.

Translation: “One of the great trainers experienced Premier League? spoke to me last week and asked me about the level @Hegazi. I think we’ll see him soon in the Premier League?!”

Hegazy has also attracted interest from Hull City, with their new manager Leonid Slutsky having watched the 26-year-old in action as well – although their relegation from the English top flight suggests the Tigers are not who Mido is referring to.

The centre-back – who has 39 caps for Egypt – had a difficult time last time he was in Europe, playing just four times for Fiorentina during three years at the Serie A club as a cruciate ligament injury disrupted his game time.

After a loan spell in Italy’s second tier with Perugia in 2014/15, La Viola terminated Hegazy’s contract and he returned to his home country in the summer of 2015.

Since then the central defender has won two league titles and was named in the Africa Cup of Nations team of the tournament in 2017 as Egypt reached the final.
