West Bromwich Albion were reportedly interested in Newcastle United ace Rolando Aarons during the summer.
According to a report from The Northern Echo this week, Newcastle are offering Rolando Aarons out to a number of Championship sides in the hope of securing a loan deal for the winger. And that report may perhaps alert West Brom fans.
The Daily Mirror reported in June that the Baggies were interested in signing Aarons this summer. So given the latest reports, it would perhaps not be the biggest shock if the 22-year-old ended the month having made the switch to The Hawthorns.
But given the way that West Brom have started the season, it is a deal that Darren Moore should arguably have very little interest in right now, especially given the struggles that Aarons has endured in recent years.
The former England under-20 international has never quite managed to kick on after showing an enormous amount of early promise at St James’ Park. Newcastle need him to play regularly this year if he is going to resurrect his career on Tyneside, and based on West Brom’s opening handful of games, there is no reason to believe that that regular game-time would come at The Hawthorns.
Matt Phillips looks a completely different player since Moore took over, scoring a superb equaliser against Nottingham Forest last week. And on the other flank, the Baggies appear to have stumbled on one of the signings of the summer across the entire Championship.
Leicester loanee Harvey Barnes has already scored twice and looks to be an inspired addition. Oliver Burke should have been relishing the challenge of this season given how impressive he was while in the second tier with Nottingham Forest, and yet, the form of both Phillips and Barnes has restricted him to just 14 minutes of game-time this term.
If Newcastle have any plans to consider Aarons in the future, West Brom – if there is any suggestion at all that they are still interested in a potential deal – does not appear to be the best destination for him as the simple fact is, as things stand, Moore’s men probably do not need him as much as he needs a fresh challenge.
