West Bromwich Albion will be assessing their attacking options in the summer and a move for Lorient striker Benjamin Moukandjo would tick all the boxes.
Lorient’s Benjamin Moukandjo has scored 13 goals for Lorient this season
West Bromwich Albion have exceeded expectations this campaign and are on course to finish in the top half of the Premier League heading into Saturday’s season finale with Swansea City. Despite this, the Baggies have struggled for goals this season.
Tony Pulis’ men have scored just 42 goals in the league and if they fail to secure a top half finish this season then it will be inconsistency in front of goal that will be to blame.
Salomon Rondon is the club’s top goalscorer with eight league goals in the Premier League and defender Gareth McAuley is not far behind with six goals to his name. Hal-Robson Kanu, the first team’s other recognised striker has only managed to score three goals.
If West Brom want to establish themselves as a top half Premier League outfit then it is crucial that the club look at bolstering their attacking options to improve on this season’s total.
Unfortunately the club are not in a financial position to splash out the figure required to bring in an established goalscorer at Premier League level so may need to look abroad to find a hidden gem; Benjamin Moukandjo could provide the perfect solution.
Lorient’s Benjamin Moukandjo celebrates
The 28-year-old Cameroon international has scored an impressive 13 goals in 25 Ligue 1 games for Lorient this season. The striker has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, with the Baggies said to be one of three top-flight clubs interested in securing his signature (Wales Online).
Moukandjo can also operate as a winger, this would benefit Tony Pulis who has chosen to operate a one striker system at the Hawthorns. If the former AS Monaco man is in his team then Pulis may be more inclined to playing with two up front.
As he is entering the final year of his contract at Lorient, his signing would not command a high transfer fee – making him an even more attractive option.
Benjamin Moukandjo has won 43 caps for Cameroon
