The Arsenal defender has been linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion.
Mathieu Debuchy didn’t enjoy the best of games as Arsenal fell to a 4-2 defeat away to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round yesterday.
The Frenchman, who signed for the Gunners from Newcastle for £12million in 2014 (Telegraph) was frequently caught out of position and, perhaps rather harshly, conceded a penalty after he was adjudged to have brought down Armand Traore in the penalty area.
That could well prove to be one of Debuchy’s final performances for Arsenal as the defender, who has yet to feature in the Premier League this season, has been linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion, as reported by The Sun.
If any West Brom scouts were in attendance at yesterday’s game then they may not have been especially impressed by Debuchy’s display, but that shouldn’t deter them from pursuing a move for the 32-year-old.
Debuchy has produced some encouraging performances for Arsenal in the Europa League this season and has built up his match fitness after enduring several injury setbacks in recent seasons.
West Brom would benefit from bringing in an experienced defender and Debuchy certainly fits the bill in that regard.
In addition to being able to provide an attacking threat from right-back, Debuchy is also capable of filling in at centre-back if required and if the deal does go ahead it could prove to be very beneficial for The Baggies.
