West Bromwich Albion are in the chase for Andy Yiadom along with Premier League rivals Swansea City.

According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer blog (11th December 2017; 12:27 pm), Swansea have moved clear of West Brom in the race to sign Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom with the Swans now in talks with the full-back.

The Mirror reports that the Tykes had wanted £3 million for the right-back, but will now lower that price as he enters the final six months of his contract at Oakwell, and Swansea are ready to take advantage of that fact.

But with Baggies defender Allan Nyom’s recent form leaving a lot to be desired, surely it makes sense for Alan Pardew’s men to put up a much greater fight to try and bring Yiadom to The Hawthorns.

Nyom has been poor on the right of the defence this season and was particularly unimpressive when the Baggies faced the Swans in an absolutely crucial game near the bottom of the Premier League table at the weekend.

With centre-back Craig Dawson arguably the first-choice understudy, it surely makes a lot of sense to strengthen the options at right-back during the January transfer window.

And with Yiadom available for such a small figure, there seems to be virtually no risk involved in making a deal happen as they should still have more than enough funds to address other areas of the squad next month even if they manage to win the race for the Barnsley man.

The 26-year-old has arguably been one of Paul Heckingbottom’s most reliable performers this season, and it certainly appears that he could do a decent job at the highest level – even if that is just to push Nyom to lift his own game after a poor run of form.
