The West Bromwich Albion winger has been disappointing this season.
West Bromwich Albion certainly need to make the most of the resources at their disposal if they are to avoid relegation from the Premier League, but it is becoming increasingly clear that one player won’t significantly help their cause.
James McClean has been linked with a move away from West Brom, with Burnley and Celtic interested in signing him, as reported by The Birmingham Mail.
The report states that West Brom manager Alan Pardew has no intention of selling McClean during this window but there is little evidence to suggest that retaining the Republic of Ireland international would be beneficial for The Baggies.
McClean produced another underwhelming performance as West Brom beat Exeter City 2-0 in the FA Cup third round at the weekend and the winger has frequently lacked ruthlessness in front of goal, as demonstrated by the fact that he has scored just five goals in 100 games for the club.
In addition, McClean has provided just seven assists during that timeframe and doesn’t appear to have the requisite quality to help West Brom get out of their current predicament, which sees them languishing in 19th place in the Premier League table.
West Brom would be best served by selling McClean if a suitable offer comes in and using the funds to sign a more reliable winger.
