West Bromwich Albion are down to just one senior goalkeeper, and even he could leave the Hawthorns this summer.
According to the Telegraph Ben Foster, who stands alone after Boaz Myhill’s release, has failed to travel with the rest of his teammates to Portugal amid interest from clubs including Watford.
And suddenly, signing a new goalkeeper appears to have become an immediate priority for Darren Moore.
But to whom could the Baggies boss turn to replace Foster, should efforts to keep him prove fruitless?
According to Sky Sports, Southampton are prepared to listen to offers for one of their own goalkeepers after tying down Alex McCarthy to a new deal this week.
And while that man – Fraser Forster, by the way – may have lost his way in recent months, he could still be a good addition for West Brom.
Before injury struck, Forster was an England squad regular, alongside Foster, and played Champions League football with Celtic, with whom he won three consecutive domestic titles and was once named players’ player of the season.
And though wages could be an issue for West Brom – according to the Times, the 30-year-old earns £90,000-a-week at Southampton – parachute payments could get them close. Besides, the Baggies may find Southampton grateful to have just part of that covered, with interest from Premier League clubs uncertain.
After losing his place at St Mary’s, Forster’s main priority will almost certainly be to secure first team football next season, and West Brom could offer not only that but – provided all goes to plan – an immediate return to the highest level.
